The University of Lincoln's Graduation Ceremonies


The September 2014 Graduation ceremonies will be taking place from Monday 8th September to Thursday 11th September.

Our graduation ceremonies are one of the most important dates in the University calendar, as it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the success of our students and show how proud we are of their achievements.

With this in mind we endeavour to make every students’ day as memorable as possible.  The ceremony itself takes place in the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral followed by a celebration reception in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.  Each student can attend with two guests and will receive two copies of the graduation brochure and tickets to the celebration reception, where drinks are served to the accompaniment of a live Jazz band –– all free of charge! (As the celebration reception is held in the grounds of Lincoln Castle, we encourage students and their families to make use of the free entry into the Castle to explore the fantastic history of Lincoln’s Norman Castle and to view one of the four surviving originals of the Magna Carta).


Ceremony Information September 2014

Graduation ceremonies will be taking place in Lincoln Cathedral from Monday 8th September 2014. The configuration for the ceremonies will not be known until the end of April.





To attend your graduation ceremony you will need to register by completing our online process when registration opens in May.


All eligible undergraduate, postgraduate and partner colleges students will be sent an email invitation to attend the graduation ceremony and instructions on how to register online via the graduation registration website; we will send you an email invitation when registration is open.


Please note, your attendance at graduation is subject to the successful completion of your award and payment of all outstanding academic fees.




Each student is guaranteed their own ticket plus two guest tickets free of charge. 


Extra Guest Tickets


Extra tickets are subject to availability and the number available will be calculated after registration has closed.  There is a chance that the ceremonies will have extra tickets available and those that do will be limited in number.  Extra tickets can be purchased on a first come first serve basis for those ceremonies that do have extra tickets available.  The maximum number of extra tickets that can be purchased will be identified via email.  Extra tickets are purchased via the graduation registration website. All registered students will be emaioled after the registration deadline to let you know when you can buy them.  They will cost £15 each (including VAT). 


Ticket Email


None of your tickets will be sent in the post.  We will send you a ticket email to the email address you provide when you register.  You should receive your ticket email at least one week before your ceremony.  You will need to bring this email with you as proof of ID to collect your tickets from the registration desk in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.  Your ticket email will state what time you can collect your tickets.

Please note that when you collect your tickets your own ticket will show a seat number. It is imperative that you sit in this particular seat as this determines the order you will go on stage.

The official University of Lincoln graduation photographers are Tempest Photography.  There is no need to pre-order anything before your ceremony, simply come along to the studio where your photographs will be taken and proofs given to you. The University of Lincoln’s Alumni team have arranged for a Yearbook to be produced for the students of 2014.   All pre-ordered Yearbooks will be handed out at your graduation ceremony in September. Please order through the ‘GradFinale Yearbooks’ iPhone App or online




If you or your guests have specific seating arrangements due to mobility or health issues, there is a section within the online registration site where you can inform us of any requirements.

Please note that if one of your guests requires specific seating arrangements, we may only be able to accommodate two seats in the designated seating area. Therefore your guests may not be able to sit together if you have more than two guests attending.





Children are more than welcome to attend the graduation ceremonies; however a child over the age of two will need to have a ticket of their own.  This is due to health and safety reasons, as children over two are not permitted to sit on an adult’s knee.  We ask students and guests to not bring children over the age of two that do not have a ticket, as entry into the Cathedral to view the ceremony is by ticket only with no exceptions. 







If you or your guests require a Visa in order to attend your graduation, there is a Visa letter request form on the right hand side of the graduation portal homepage that you need to complete and send to who will be able to produce a Certificate of Study letter for you, which will assist in your Visa application.






For students who have their award conferred in the summer, your certificate will be given to you in an envelope as you leave the stage.  Please note that your certificate is then your responsibility.  If you lose or damage it, you can request a replacement copy for £25 from the following link:


If your award was conferred before the summer, you may have already received your certificate through the post. You will therefore be given a letter of congratulations as you leave the stage.

Immediately after the graduation ceremony an Alumni celebration reception will take place in a marquee in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.  All graduates are invited to attend this reception with their guests. After the ceremony, the academics will process out of the Cathedral and to the Castle. We ask students to join this procession and meet their guests in the Castle grounds and then to attend the Celebration reception.


Glasses of wine, juice and tea and coffee will be available at the reception with an accompaniment of a live jazz band.  Only guests with tickets will be able to attend the celebration reception.  After the reception, you will be able to return your gowns.

The University does not provide parking for the graduation ceremonies.  There are pay and display car parks near to the Cathedral and Castle that also have disabled parking bays.  Please ensure that enough time is given to arrive in Lincoln and find a parking space before the ceremony begins as these car parks can get busy.
