The Core Collections are located on the ground floor of the University Library in Lincoln and on the sixth floor of the Derek Crothall Building in Hull.
They are short loan collections. Books, dissertations and learning packages are available to borrow for a 4-hour loan period, at the end of which they must be returned to the Library issue desk.
The Core Collections include:
- More than 6,000 short-loan, high-demand books on unit reading lists (overnight borrowing starts at 5:00pm – ask at the Library issue desk about the Core book reservation service)
- More than 2,000 undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and theses, now arranged in degree subject order
- Newspapers (3 month archive) *
- Learning packages (held behind the issue desk) *

Royal College of Nursing Learning Resource Centre *
- 5 networked PCs (a computer booking service is available at the I.T. support desk) *
- 2 standalone PCs for viewing CDs and Psychology dissertations *

Core Collection books can be borrowed for 4 hours, and can be taken out of the Library / LRC. Overnight borrowing starts at 5:00pm – items must be returned within 30 minutes of the desk services re-opening the next day.
Dissertations and learning packages can be borrowed for 4 hours, but cannot be taken out of the Library / LRC. They can only be borrowed during service hours.
Newspapers are for reference only.
To keep availability to the highest possible level, all members of the University are limited to borrowing two Core Collection items at any one time. Please return all Core items to the Library issue desk, and not via the self-issue machines.
